Capping is the upper or lower segment of the tablet separates horizontally, either partially or completely from the main body, and comes off like a cap, during ejection from the tablet press, or during subsequent handling. Major causes of capping tablet and remedies for them
1. Fines
This is the matter faced within the formulation of the
granules. Fines are small dust particles that are found within the tablets.
These particles don't compress or flow alright and as a result, the tablet
faces many problems.
Capping in Tablets
Cause: the variety of fines within the
granules are quite the traditional amount. If the quantity of fines increases
within the granules, it can further end in weight variation and segregation
during compression of the tablet. this may cause improper flow or may be
blockage of the flow of air.
Remedies: you would like to get rid of all or a number of
the fines by using 100 to 200 mesh screens. By removal of fine particles, the
air will flow properly within the tablet and therefore the compression of the
tablet also will improve.
2. Dryness
This is also a standard problem that is faced within the
formulation of the tablets.
Cause: When the moisture content of the tablet is kept very
low, it results in dryness of the tablet. The dryness leads to the weak bonding
of the granules which can cause the tablets to disintegrate or create fractures
within the cap.
Remedies: Adjust the moisture content so that tablets aren't
too dry and not too wet. there's no specific percentage of moisture content
needed to form a tablet. It depends on the number of water which can be needed
to bond the granules together. So, the moisture content must be perfect.
3. Upper Punch Penetration
This is a capping problem that emanates from the machine.
Cause: It happens when the penetration controls for the
tablet aren't set consistent with the perfect conditions. the perfect range of
the control is from 1.5 mm to 2 mm. the most explanation for this problem is
that the entrapped air. When the air is punched too deep within the die, it'll
not have enough space to flee from the tablet, which can later form fractures
within the tablet.
Remedies: you'll change the punching levels of the machine
i.e. set punch penetration to three mm or less. you'll use tapered dies.
This problem is additionally found in machine controls and
is caused by machine operators performing on the tablet press.
Cause: Pre-compression is employed to get rid of the
entrapped air within the tablet which we discussed earlier. However, an
excessive amount of pre-compression will cause the manufacturing of thin
tablets. Too thin thickness can cause fractures or the creation of another
layer of the tablet.
Remedies: The pre-compression values or controls of the
machine should be changed accordingly.
Tooling is caused by using wrong controls within the
machine. it's of varied kinds like a flat-faced, extra deep, shallow, modified
ball, and far more.
Causes: When the upper punch cup of the tablet curls inward,
it's called j-hooking. This phenomenon can pull the tablet apart. It happens
when the upper punch of the cap isn't polished properly.
Remedies: Polish the tablet surface properly. you'll also
use tapered dies.
